William P. Ziegelmueller joined Stetler
& Duffy, Ltd. at its inception and became a shareholder in the
firm as of January 1, 2001. Prior to joining the firm, Mr.
Ziegelmueller practiced in the Trial Department of McDermott,
Will & Emery.
Mr. Ziegelmueller’s practice is
primarily concentrated in health care fraud and abuse and
compliance matters. He has represented clients at many levels of
the health care industry, including doctors, physician groups,
hospitals, DME providers, drug manufacturers, insurance
companies, and Medicare carriers. Mr. Ziegelmueller has defended
clients facing criminal prosecution, as well as civil and
administrative claims, including qui tam actions, related
to alleged violations of the Anti-Kickback Statute, the
Prescription Drug Marketing Act, Medicare and Medicaid
regulations, and federal and state fraud laws. He also has
conducted internal corporate investigations and counseled
clients on the implementation of compliance programs and
corporate integrity agreements. In addition to his health care
practice, Mr. Ziegelmueller has litigated numerous commercial
and employment disputes, including those involving breach of
contract, fraud, and civil RICO violations, and has also
defended clients charged with violations of securities laws and
regulations. Mr. Ziegelmueller also has experience representing
both civil and criminal litigants on appeal.
Mr. Ziegelmueller is a member of the bar
of the State of Illinois and the general and trial bars of the
U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Mr.
Ziegelmueller received his undergraduate degree magna cum
laude, with honors, from Wake Forest University. He received
his law degree in 1994 from Northwestern University, where he
served as coordinating note editor of the Journal of Criminal
Law and Criminology.
